Every dog has its day and in New York, the time came for an array of glamorous pooches to enjoy a stint in the spotlight. Pictured here are Portia Forster and Grace dressed as Legally Blonde.
Is it the naked cowboy? Or is it Eli the Chihuahua in a raunchy outfit for the start of the Dog Day Masquerade?
The event raises awareness for Animal Haven's Adopt-a-Pet scheme. Tuffy the Chihuahua was among those looking cool.
Patriotic Bella dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Sort of.
And Pepe wanted everyone to know that he was top dog during last year's contest. But did he keep his title?
Teeny weeny Tequila became a Lion King for the day. Grrrr.
And Pugs Max and Herbie took their inspiration from Venice by dressing as Gondoliers.
Word on da street is diss Bassett Hound got dressed as a pimp. Dude.
Mindy and Dash looked out of this world as SpaceDogs.
Finally, there are fringe benefits to being the real Naked Cowboy (a busker in Times Square) - he gets to judge some of the hopeful contestants.

I think they are adorable. I love to see them wearing little outfits. I try and put my dog in them but it is hard because he has arthritis (sp? spell check doesn't work on this computer for some reason) and he is a weenie dog and his legs are to short to stay in them.
1Haha! That pup dressed as a cowboy is hilarious
2ha ha ha! lmao! These are too cute.
3If it's for a good cause, I'm so for it! But if it's just a regular day...please get a friggin' life.
That first picture could SO double as a Britney and London Halloween costume!
4Oh my God. Where is their dignity??

@ Adrianne - too true!!
6Very cute!
7I put my weiner in jackets and sweaters in the fall and winter. He gets really cold being so close to the ground.
8Those poor dogs...if I'm going to have nightmares for a week what damage was done to their little self esteems!!!!!
9I never put my dog into an outfit, but I could see doing it for weather or holiday reasons.
Still, even better if it's for a good cause! And the gondoliers are adorable!
10aawww they look totally adorable!

I don't understand why people dress up their dogs...it's almost like a regression to childhood and dressing up their dolls. I've never seen a dog that really enjoys having an outfit on...every dog I've ever seen with a hat has always tried to "paw" it off. Now a warm sweater or coat on a very cold day...I can see that from a protective standpoint, but not just decorative outfits.
12well, if it's for a good cause.... They are really cute. My dogs would have none of it though.
